Girl from South Miami
She was a pretty Cuban girl
from South Miami
She would sing along to the radio
It was plain to see the music
was inside her
And she never had to try
and steal the show
She sang it - Latin Music
See them dancing to it
Everywhere you go
You hear it - Latin Music
Don't you know
Nuestra Gloria ella canto
In a little club way down in
North Miami
She would sing with her back
toward the crowd
And even though her shyness
showed - the people know
They'd line around the block to
see the show
She sang it - Latin Music
See them dancing to it
Everywhere you go
You hear it - Latin Music
Don't you know
Nuestra Gloria ella canto
Now she lives in a mansion on an
island off South Miami
See, she made it all the way to
number one
And though she fills her mantelpiece
with Latin Grammies
She never would forget where she
came from
(Repeat Chorus)
ABOUT THE SONG:
Music by Thirsty Howell
Words by Thirsty Howell/ Stet Blancett
One of the most interesting characters I have met in the south is
Stet Blancett, Musician/ Producer/ Actor and part time machine gun
specialist!
Stet is a native Floridian and a natural born story teller.
His tales of Miami in the 70s and 80s resemble scenes from Casablanca.
One story that captured my imagination was about seeing a young Gloria
Estefan and the band in a night club in Miami. This was well before they
were famous.
Although she was a shy but talented performer - it seemed the audience
could sense her destiny.
